What’s the highest credit score one can have?
I was honestly amused to discover that apart from TransUnion CIBIL, there are 3 more credit bureaus in India. Each comes with its own credit score range, along with a slightly different maximum limit.
- CIBIL (TransUnion CIBIL): Range is 300–900, with anything above 790 marked excellent. This is also the most widely used score in India.
- Experian: Range is 300–850. A score above 800 is excellent and reflects strong financial responsibility.
- Equifax: Same 300–850 range. Here, too, 800+ means you are in the top bracket for loans and credit cards.
- CRIF High Mark: Range is 300–900. A score of 750 or higher signals excellent creditworthiness.
So, the maximum credit score depends on the bureau. For CIBIL and CRIF, it caps at 900, while for Experian and Equifax, it is 850.
The closer you are to these limits in your credit score range, the better your chances of faster approvals and favourable loan terms.
