The interest rates for FD in post office are between 6.90% and 7.50%. The fixed deposit scheme at the post office is quite popular as it is backed by the Government of India. Those who have a low risk appetite and want to get safe returns often turn to Post office FD. I have recently opened one FD in post office for 3 years at 7.1% interest.
Mind you, the interest rates differ for different tenures. I am sharing the latest post office FD interest rates below for your reference:
- For 1 year FD: 6.9%
- For 2 years FD: 7.0%
- For 3 years FD: 7.1%
- For 5 years FD: 7.5%
I opened my fixed deposit in the post office just because of the tax benefits. I can claim deduction under Section 80C.
