3D Secure code is what?
3D Secure, also known as 3 domain secure, is an additional security layer for online card transactions. Whenever a cardholder makes an online purchase, a 3D Secure authentication process is triggered to verify that the transaction is being made by the legitimate cardholder. This is how it works:
- During checkout, the cardholder is prompted to enter a 3D Secure code or authenticate via OTP, password or biometric sent by the card issuer.
- The ‘three domains’ refer to the card issuer, acquirer/merchant, and the 3D Secure platform that coordinates authentication.
- This system drastically reduces online fraud by ensuring even if a card number is stolen, unauthorized access is almost impossible without the 3D Secure code.
For you, this means complete safety and your merchants get assurance of reduced liability in case of fraudulent transactions.
