What happens to my principal amount if I withdraw an FD prematurely?
There is no penalty charged on the principal amount. If you withdraw your FD early, you will receive your entire principal amount plus interest earned. The final rate will be the bank’s applicable rate for the holding period minus a 1% bank penalty by the bank.
