You do not need to visit any branch or fill out forms. Everything happens online through your bank or broker.
You will receive a message or email about a month before maturity, so you know when to expect the payment. To avoid any issues, always keep your bank details and contact info up to date with your bank, post office or Stock Holding Corporation of India or SHCIL.
- The RBI issues these bonds on behalf of the government. After 8 years, your bonds mature and the money comes straight to your bank account in Indian Rupees.
- You can also redeem your SGBs early after 5 years, but only on interest payment dates. Just contact the same bank or broker where you bought them and submit a redemption request.
You can even redeem part of your holdings in multiples of 1 gram. The redemption price depends on the average closing price of gold from the last three business days, published by the India Bullion and Jewellers Association or IBJA.
That is all. You get your money safely, without any effort or paperwork.
