how much custom duty on gold from dubai to india?
Hi,
When I brought gold from Dubai to India, I learned that there’s a fixed custom duty you need to pay if you’re carrying more than the allowed limit. Basically, Indian passengers can bring a certain amount of gold jewelry duty-free if they’ve stayed abroad for over a year, but anything extra like gold bars, coins, or too much jewelry gets taxed. If you are bringing gold from Dubai to India, you will have to pay customs duty depending on how long you stayed in Dubai and how much gold you are carrying.
- If your stay is less than 6 months - No duty-free allowance, you pay 38.5% customs duty.
- If your stay is between 6 months to 1 year - No duty-free allowance, but you pay a lower rate of 13.7% (up to 1 kg of gold).
- If your stay is more than 1 year - You get a duty-free allowance of ₹50,000 (men) or ₹1,00,000 (women). Beyond that, you pay 13.7% (up to 1 kg).
So, in simple words: the longer you stay in Dubai, the less duty you pay. Small quantities of gold
