When you buy gold jewellery, you’ll often notice some tiny markings on it these are hallmark symbols, and they tell you important details about your gold’s purity and authenticity. As per the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), there are three main marks you should look for on any hallmarked gold item:

  • BIS logo which confirms that the gold has been tested and certified by the BIS.
  • Purity/Fineness grade – It shows the purity of gold, such as 22K (91.6%), 18K (75%), or 14K (58.5%).
  • Six-digit alphanumeric HUID number.

These are the hallmark signs on gold that should be checked at the time of purchase.
