Does checking credit score reduce it? Please tell me what makes it drop
The simple answer is no, it does not. When you check your own score, it is called a soft inquiry, and that has no effect on credit points at all.
Soft inquiries also happen when a landlord or even an employer checks your score with your permission.
Sometimes lenders do it too, just to pre-approve you for a loan or credit card offer. None of these affects your score because you are not actually applying for credit.
What can make a difference is a hard question. That is when you officially apply for a loan or a new credit card, and the bank checks your report to decide whether to approve it.
Hard inquiries show up on your credit report and may bring your score down a little for a short time.
So if you are just curious about your CIBIL score or want to keep track of your credit health, go ahead and check it as often as you like. It will not hurt your score.
In fact, I prefer monitoring it regularly as it helps me stay in control.
