Who can get a credit card? Will be able to get one?
As far as I know, getting a credit card is not at all complicated. You just have to meet a few basic requirements. Every bank has its own checklist, but the basics are pretty much the same.
- First off, most banks want you to be at least 21 to get your own card, though some start at 18. On the other end, the limit is usually around 60–65 years.
- Then comes your income. It is how the bank knows you can repay what you spend.
- A good credit score of 750 or above is like a green signal for the bank. It shows you have been responsible with loans.
- If you have existing debts like EMIs or loans, banks may hesitate because high debt means high risk.
- Nationality plays a role, too. You can apply as an Indian resident or even as an NRI, depending on the card.
However, I would advise you to always check your eligibility online before applying. It takes a minute, but it can save you from rejection. I do this every time and it has saved me a lot of hassle.
