I would say that closing a fixed deposit account in SBI through internet banking is a cakewalk. Let me guide you through the process, as I recently did it myself:

  1. Visit the official SBI personal banking online portal.
  2. Click on the ‘Continue to Login’ button.
  3. Then enter your online banking username, password and captcha to log in.
  4. Click on ETDR / STDR (FD) tab.
  5. Select the “Close Account Prematurely” button mentioned under the ETDR / STDR (FD) section.
  6. Choose the FD you want to close and hit the “Proceed” button.
  7. Verify the details. Explain why you want to close it and tap the ‘Confirm’ to proceed.
  8. You will receive a high-security transaction password on your registered mobile number. Enter it and press the ‘Confirm’ button.

Instantly, the screen will notify you that the bank closed your fixed deposit. You will receive that money in your savings account within minutes. Just remember, you need to follow these steps between 08:00 AM and 08:00 PM.

However, I would suggest not closing an SBI FD before maturity. But if you’re going through a tough time and really need some money, then follow these steps and close your FD.
