Most of the people have the same question about how to break RD in a post office but actually breaking a Post Office RD is simple. Go to the post office branch where you opened the RD with your RD passbook and a photo ID (Aadhaar or PAN usually works), tell the counter you want to close the RD, fill out the premature closure/withdrawal form and sign it, and hand it to the officials; they’ll process the request and pay you the principal plus interest, but note the interest will be lower because a penalty is applied for early withdrawal (the post office will tell you the exact reduction), and in some cases you can close the RD at the same branch where it was opened.
